The Noakes Line

The name Nokes/Noakes was originally Anoke and they were a family owning their own land. They can be traced back in Ticehurst and Burwash to the early 1500's and in Kent parishes as well.

Ticehurst is a parish bordering Goudhurst parish in Kent. There were several Noakes families in Ticehurst and it's impossible to fathom the relationships between them as they all seem to be called Thomas or John.

There is a baptism for a THOMAS NOAKES on November 21st 1641, son of yet another THOMAS. This is the only one found in the parish of Ticehurst with the right name and within the possible dates for his birth which would make him 24 at his marriage in 1666

1666 THOMAS NOKES, a weaver, married ELIZABETH FULLER on May 3rd at St Mary and St Nicholas, Etchingham.

Their children - all baptised at Ticehurst:

There is a marriage between THOMAS FULLER and ANN WATERS in 1634 at Etchingham, and a son, William, was baptised in 1635.

The researcher, Keith Spencer, has a baptism for ELIZABETH on August 12th 1642 although there are no baptism records on-line for Etchingham after 1640 so her baptism cannot be verified.
